Helian safeguarding
Helian safeguarding is the anti-abuse rule of the Helian Way. The Catechism says the safeguards "bind the Pontifex as much as any member".[1]
Rules
Tradition / belief The nine safeguards are: mandatory, immediate reporting of suspected abuse to civil authorities; no concealment under any pledge, oath, rite or register; a two-adult rule with no private one-to-one messaging between adults and minors; background checks; annual training; an independent Office of Safeguarding whose head is not clergy and cannot be removed by the Pontifex alone; suspension on credible accusation; no retaliation against reporters; and care for survivors.[1] Tradition / belief Confidentiality pledges "never stop" a member from reporting a crime or danger to police, child-protection services or any authority, from speaking with a lawyer, doctor or counsellor, or from leaving and speaking about their own life afterwards.[2] Tradition / belief The Helian Academy for young people requires written parental consent, follows the US COPPA rule for children under 13, and holds no doctrine tests or recruitment pitches for minors.[3]
Background
Established The Catechism cites California law, under which clergy are mandated reporters of child abuse.[4]
