Help:Citing public-domain texts
Appearance
Where to find full texts
- Wikisource (many languages)
- Project Gutenberg
- Internet Archive
- Christian Classics Ethereal Library (CCEL), including the Ante-Nicene Fathers (1885–96) and Nicene and Post-Nicene Fathers
- sacred-texts.com
How to cite
Use <ref>{{Cite book|author=G.R.S. Mead|title=Thrice-Greatest Hermes|year=1906|note=vol. 2}}</ref> and end the page with <references />.
Public-domain check
In the United States, works published before 1931 are in the public domain as of 2026. Check the copyright page of the exact edition. A modern reprint of an old translation can add copyrighted notes or introductions: quote only the old text.
Many popular modern translations (for example of the Nag Hammadi codices) are under copyright. Cite them; do not paste them.
