Mandaeism

From Helian Way Wiki

Mandaeism is a living Gnostic religion whose followers, the Mandaeans, revere John the Baptist.

Established Mandaeans historically lived in southern Iraq and south-western Iran, and today many live in diaspora communities. Their scriptures, including the Ginza Rabba ("Great Treasure") and the Book of John, are written in Mandaic, an Eastern Aramaic dialect.[1][2] Tradition / belief Mandaeans practise repeated baptism in flowing water and teach the ascent of the soul through worlds of light.[3] Scholarly debate Their origins are debated: some scholars place them in the Jordan valley in the first centuries CE, others see a later Mesopotamian formation.[4]
