Theosophy

From Helian Way Wiki

Theosophy, in the modern sense, is the teaching of the Theosophical Society, founded in New York in 1875 by Helena Petrovna Blavatsky, Henry Steel Olcott and William Quan Judge.

Established Blavatsky's Isis Unveiled (1877) and The Secret Doctrine (1888) combined Western esotericism with Hindu and Buddhist ideas. The Society later moved its headquarters to Adyar, India.[1][2] Tradition / belief Blavatsky said her teachings came from hidden Masters (Mahatmas) in Tibet.[3] Scholarly debate W.E. Coleman (1895) argued that much of her work was copied from contemporary books, and the 1885 Hodgson Report for the Society for Psychical Research called her a fraud; a 1986 article in the Society's own journal by Vernon Harrison criticised Hodgson's methods.[4][5]
